Slab Leak
A slab leak doesn't stay contained to one spot; the longer it runs under the foundation, the more it can undermine the floor and the structure above it.
When this becomes an emergency
- A warm spot on the floor tile that shouldn't be warm
- A section of flooring that's buckling or lifting for no obvious reason
- The water meter still turning with everything in the house shut off
- A water bill that jumped noticeably with no change in how much water's being used
What a pro does
Slab leaks are close to a signature Treasure Coast plumbing problem, since most homes here sit on a concrete slab with the supply lines run directly through or under it rather than up through a basement or crawlspace. A plumber uses acoustic listening equipment and sometimes a thermal camera to pinpoint the leak's location under the floor before anything gets cut into, since guessing wrong on a slab means cutting concrete for nothing. Once the spot's confirmed, the repair itself might mean accessing that one section of slab directly, or in some cases rerouting the line entirely through the attic or an exterior wall to avoid the slab altogether. Copper pipe run in the 1970s and 80s is usually the culprit; decades against the ground and the slab itself eventually pit it through.
