Burst Pipe
Once a pipe actually lets go, the water keeps running and the damage keeps spreading until a plumber gets it stopped and closed back up.
When this becomes an emergency
- Water spraying or dripping somewhere in the house that's never had water before
- A hissing or ticking sound inside a wall right after the pressure shifts
- The water meter dial still spinning with every fixture in the house turned off
- A wall or ceiling stain that's visibly bigger than it was that morning
What a pro does
A burst pipe call starts with finding the water's off, not guessing at where the crack is. The plumber traces the line through the wall or under the slab, using the meter and sometimes a moisture meter to narrow down the failure point before any drywall or flooring comes up, since a lot of Treasure Coast houses built in the 1970s and 80s still run original copper that's grown thin with age. Once the section is exposed, they cut it out and rejoin the line with fittings rated for that pipe, then pressure test before anything gets closed back up. It isn't a job to leave half-finished, since a repair that doesn't hold just floods the same spot again.
